Social Work Services

Social workers have a broad scope of practice. At Coova, our social work services are delivered by graduate-level social workers who often serve as case managers, while bachelor-level social workers deliver direct clinical support — practicing alongside and under the supervision of the case manager leading your care. Your case manager remains your primary point of contact, holding the bigger picture and ensuring all social work support — whether counselling, crisis support, or system navigation — is integrated into one coordinated plan built around you.

Individualized Support, Where You Live

What Are Social Work Services at Coova

Our social work services provide clinically informed, relationship-based support delivered wherever you are — in your home, school, workplace, community, or alongside you during a hospital admission to attend care meetings and advocate on your behalf.

This flexibility is intentional. Real life doesn’t happen in a clinic, and neither does our care. Every social work service is delivered with a commitment to ethical practice, cultural humility, and client dignity — and integrated into the broader care plan your case manager is leading.

The goal is not only to manage challenges, but to strengthen relationships, build resilience, and create a clearer path forward through coordinated, community-based social work.

What We Do

How Our Social Work Services Support You

One-On-One Support

Your social worker provides personalized in-home social work support in your home or community. Meeting you where you live allows us to understand your relationships, stressors, strengths, and daily environment. Support includes emotional processing, skills-building, and goal-focused guidance grounded in your lived reality.

Psychoeducation

We help individuals and families understand mental health, emotional regulation, family dynamics, and stress responses, along with how systems of care work together. This community-based mental health support is especially valuable for families supporting older adults and newcomers learning how systems in British Columbia function.

System Navigation

Our team supports you in accessing services, understanding available resources, and communicating effectively with agencies, schools, healthcare providers, and community organizations. When appropriate, we facilitate referrals and help connect you with community programs and funding supports.

Family Support

Family and caregiver support is a core part of our social work services, especially where caregiver stress, parent-teen conflict, or relational strain is present. We help families improve communication, build empathy, and navigate conflict in structured, emotionally grounded ways.

Integrated Care Collaboration

Your social worker doesn't work in a silo. At Coova, real-time communication and transparency across your clinical team — including psychiatry, psychology, occupational therapy, and behavioural consulting — means insights are shared, plans stay aligned, and clinical goals are met through a team that's consistently working from the same page.

Common questions about social work services in BC

A registered social worker in BC is a regulated professional trained to support emotional, relational, and systemic needs in everyday life.

Unlike traditional therapy settings, social workers often provide in-home mental health support and community-based care, working within your real-world environment.

No referral is required. You can contact us directly to begin. We welcome self-referrals, as well as referrals from physicians, schools, mental health professionals, and community organizations.

Social work services may not always be covered by MSP, but there may be more funding options available than you’d expect — including extended health benefits, EAPs, and private insurance plans. Navigating coverage can be confusing, and we’re here to help you get clarity on what applies to your situation.

Support is offered community-based and can take place in your home, schools, community spaces, or virtually depending on your needs.

Our social worker services are designed to complement, not replace, existing care. Your registered social worker collaborates with other clinicians involved in your treatment to ensure your support is cohesive and aligned with your broader care plan.

Both. Support can be structured around an individual or extended to the family unit, particularly where parent-teen conflict, caregiver stress, or relational dynamics are central concerns. During your initial consultation, we will help determine the configuration of support that best fits your situation.

A consultation is the best place to start. We take the time to understand your situation and whether this service is well-suited to your needs. If another form of mental health support would serve you better, we will be transparent and help you find the right direction.
