Speech-Language Pathologists work across a broad scope of practice. At Coova, our speech and language services are delivered by registered Speech-Language Pathologists (S-LPs) who assess communication, language, and swallowing needs, identifying barriers, designing targeted intervention plans, and working alongside the care team to ensure communication support is woven into every part of a client’s care. Your case manager remains your primary point of contact, holding the bigger picture and ensuring all speech and language support, whether communication assessment, language intervention, or augmentative communication, is integrated into one coordinated plan built around you.
Individualized Support, Where You Live
Our speech and language services provide clinically informed, communication-focused support delivered wherever you are, in your home, school, workplace, or community. Speech-Language Pathologists are trained to assess and treat a wide range of communication and swallowing disorders, working in the real environments where communication actually needs to function.
This flexibility is intentional. Communication doesn’t happen in a clinical office, it happens at the dinner table, in the classroom, at work, and in every relationship a person holds. Every speech and language service is delivered with a commitment to ethical practice, cultural humility, and client dignity, and integrated into the broader care plan your case manager is leading.
The goal is not only to address communication barriers, but to build confidence, restore connection, and create a clearer path forward through coordinated, community-based speech and language support.
Your S-LP conducts a thorough assessment of communication strengths and needs, covering speech, language, voice, fluency, and social communication. Assessments are carried out in the environments where communication matters most, giving a more accurate picture than a clinical setting alone can provide. Findings inform intervention planning and are shared clearly with your care team.
We provide direct, structured intervention for individuals experiencing difficulties with understanding or expressing language, whether spoken, written, or non-verbal. This includes building vocabulary, sentence structure, narrative skills, and comprehension in ways that translate directly to daily life at home, school, and in the community.
For individuals who struggle with the social rules of communication, reading context, taking turns, interpreting tone, navigating conversation, our S-LPs provide targeted pragmatic language support. This work is especially valuable for neurodivergent individuals and those managing acquired communication changes, and is carried out in the real social settings where those skills need to function.
Where verbal speech is limited, absent, or unreliable, we assess, recommend, and support the implementation of augmentative and alternative communication tools, from low-tech symbol boards to high-tech speech-generating devices. AAC support includes training for the individual, their family, and the broader care team to ensure it’s used consistently across all settings.
We address challenges related to speech clarity, articulation, voice quality, and fluency, including stuttering, voice disorders, and speech sound difficulties. Intervention is goal-directed and grounded in what matters most to the individual: being understood at work, in social settings, or at home.
Your S-LP doesn’t work in a silo. At Coova, real-time communication and transparency across your clinical team, including social work, psychiatry and psychology, occupational therapy, nursing, behavioural consulting, dietitian services, recreational therapy, and spiritual and cultural support, means insights are shared, plans stay aligned, and clinical goals are met through a team that’s consistently working from the same page.

A registered Speech-Language Pathologist (S-LP) in BC is a regulated health professional trained to assess and treat disorders of communication and swallowing. This includes difficulties with speech sounds, language comprehension and expression, social communication, voice, fluency, and where relevant, safe swallowing. S-LPs work across the lifespan, from young children with language delays to adults managing communication changes from neurological events or illness.
No referral is required. You can contact us directly to begin. We welcome self-referrals, as well as referrals from physicians, pediatricians, neurologists, psychologists, schools, and community organizations.
Speech-language pathology services are not typically covered by MSP in community settings, but there may be more funding options available than you’d expect, including extended health benefits, CLBC funding, school district supports, and private insurance plans. Navigating coverage can be confusing, and we’re here to help you get clarity on what applies to your situation.
Support is offered community-based and can take place in your home, schools, community spaces, or virtually depending on your needs and the nature of the service.
Our speech and language services are designed to complement, not replace, existing care. Your S-LP communicates directly with your physician, school team, and the rest of your Coova clinical team to ensure communication support is cohesive and aligned with your broader care plan.
Support is structured around the individual, but family involvement is central to how speech and language intervention works, particularly for children and for adults managing significant communication changes. Coaching the people in a client’s life to support communication goals is part of the work. During your initial consultation, we will help determine the configuration of support that best fits your situation.
A consultation is the best place to start. We take the time to understand your situation and whether this service is well-suited to your needs. If another form of communication or health support would serve you better, we will be transparent and help you find the right direction.
